I did my photo essay on my annual
family Christmas tree trip, and I arranged my photos in order to show the trip
from beginning to end. My first photo shows us leaving town. I liked the way
the trees almost framed the clearing and
the lines on the road lead to a corner that looks like it drops off into
nowhere.
My second photo is at the tree
farm. I used a large aperture to blur the background so that I could get a
close up shot that focused on the needles and water droplets. I used the dog in
the background to balance the lower left side of the image and add a
contrasting color to make the image stand out.
In
my third image there’s a longer depth of field, with the dog in the front left,
the girl in the pink coat behind him on the right and the other girl further
back on the left so it zigzags back and balances the image.
My third photo is one of my nieces
decorating the tree. I placed her off to the side using the rule of thirds. I
let the tree fill the rest of the image so it cut out any background
distractions and helped the image flow.
